Rise and Shine

Jesse Russell

Like the Sun in the morning, moments of awakening often shed light on areas of our life which may have been hidden in the dark. Light is often metaphorically attributed to consciousness, and with the growing daylight hours of March we’re reminded of the expansive nature of consciousness. We begin to see things which may have flown undetected beneath our radar. We become more attuned to the interconnectivity of all life on this planet. We come to recognize that we’re entangled in a cosmic web of life bound by laws of cause and effect of which no one and no thing stands apart. With this knowledge often comes a feeling of great responsibility, and some of us may feel called to awaken to a higher purpose of service in the name of Oneness.

As the animals arise from their winter slumber and the plant buds burst through the soil for the first time in months, there’s no better time to wake up and smell the morning coffee. Though every moment is an opportunity to awaken, Mother Nature’s revival in March is an invitation for all to awaken with Her. “Awakening” could mean a lot of different things depending on who you ask. It could be shrouded in mysticism or quite literal. A quick online search for the meaning of awakening could produce a list of common symptoms as though it’s some type of disease. Although awakening is not always the most pleasant experience, it’s nothing to fear, and by grace we’re all destined to have moments of awakening sooner or later.

On a personal level, awakening may come as a struggle. In order for our seed of consciousness to bloom as its fullest potential it must grow through darkness and dirt. It can be scary and uncomfortable growing through our shit; sometimes it really stinks. But often times it’s that very shit which serves as the fertilizer for our growth. However, challenging moments are accompanied by moments of bliss and pure ecstasy which make the struggle worthwhile, for once we step fully into the light we’re greeted with newfound peace and a greater understanding of our purpose in this life. Awakening is inevitable, so it’s futile to try to resist it. When it’s time, embrace it. Arise and allow the effulgence of your inner sun to shine upon this world. Who knows? YOU could be the beacon of light which someone else needs to make it through the dark night of their soul.
